Surprise! We're Engaged!

On September 8th 2006 Les asked me to marry him. Of course my response was yes. Here is how the proposal came about. Les and I had to run some errands around Portland in the afternoon of September 8th. When we were all finished, Les asked me if I wanted to go for a drive. I said sure, but where do you want to go. He asked me if I wanted to go to the Rose Garden in Washington Park. I said nah, I've been there so many times before. Unknown to me, Les had planned on proposing to me at the Rose Garden. We'll we were driving through Washington Park and we drove by the Portland Zoo. Les asked me if I wanted to go into the zoo. I said no because I thought it was getting late and the zoo was going to close soon. Then he said he was going to take me to a place that I never been to before. It was the Oregon Vietnam War Memorial.

Les took me all around the memorial. I read each memorial as we walked the path.

After Les and I went through the entire memorial, he asked me if I wanted to go through it one more time. I thought that was kind of wierd. As we walked around the memorial again, Les told me how special this place was to him. He always visits this memorial before he has to go on deployment. Unbeknown to me, Les had a plan to propose to me ontop of the bridge in the memorial, but once we reached the bridge, the privateness of the memorial was no longer. A group of tourist arrived into the memorial and ruined Les's plan.

I didn't know why were standing around, so I told Les I wanted to go back to the car. We started walking back to the car and Les pointed out this tree and asked me if it was a maple tree. I told him I didn't know what it was. He told me to go up and look at it. I walked up this little hill and looked up at the tree. I told Les that it wasn't a maple tree, it was an old oak tree. As we stood under this big oak tree, a little red squirrel ran by us. Les pointed out the squirrel and asked me what kind of squirrel it was. I told him that I know it wasn't a California Grey Squirrel. Then all of a sudden, Les's back started to hurt. He said he needed to stretch his back out, so he got down on his knee and stretched it. As he was stretching it Les and I could hear that squirrel up in the tree. Les pointed up to the tree and asked me if I knew what the heck the squirrel was doing up in the tree. I looked up at the squirrel and told Les that it was probably eating an acorn. When I turned back to look at Les, he was down on his knee holding a beautiful diamond ring. Les said a few words, which to this day I can't remember because I was in such shock. I know he asked me to marry him, in which I replied "Of course I'll marry you!" He also told me that this place is very special to him and that he wanted this place to be a special place for us. Here are a few more pics from the memorial site.

Here's my new bling. The picture doesn't do it justice. I couldn't take a clear picture. The setting is in white gold. This picture makes it look yellow. My man knows how to pick out jewelry

I'm almost at the good part..but you still have to wait!

Les and I hiked Multanomah Falls. Here are some pics of our hike. I have to admit. Oregon has some of the best hiking trails I have ever been on.

I'm Still Trying to Catch you up....and I'm not even at the good part yet.

Les and I visited his friends Larry and Lynn. They live in Lake Oswego. Larry took us out on his boat. We took the boat across the lake for dinner. Here are a few pics

Trying to Catch you up!

I spent the week in Portland for Labor Day weekend. There was a lot happening for me while I was in Portland. I will try to re-trace the events for you. The weekend of September 2nd, Les, I, his friends Chris and Rob all drove down from Portland to Eugene to see the Oregon Ducks take on the Stanford Cardinals. Here are some pics from tthat day. It was opening day for the Ducks. No surprise the Ducks slammed the Cardinals.

Picture on the Bay

The same weekend Les and I attend the Oakland A's game we also attended the San Francisco Giants game. I was able to obtain front row tickets to see Barry Bonds take on Ken Griffey Jr. Les almost caught a foul ball, but the guy next to him got it. They kept replaying the catch over and over again on TV. I think Les got his 15 mins of fame.

Here's a picture of us in the middle of the San Francisco Bay. We took the Ferry from Alameda to San Francisco. It was a beautiful day on the bay!

Let's Go Oakland

On a nice warm Saturday afternoon in August, Les and I took in an exciting A's game. I think the A's lost. Les has that effect on them. I told him I wasn't going to take him to anymore games because it seems every time he goes, the A's lose. I don't think I'm that superstitious????
